Talk about a really, really well planned, phenomenal first time show rally! Michael Carle, general manager, took it upon himself and staff to put on their very first vintage trailer rally. They already knew the “show ropes” due to their past car shows and resort events. Michael had been wanting to do this for some time. He is to be congratulated for doing this completely on his own; i.e. no one from the vintage trailer family was behind this as a host or wagonmaster. The resort welcomed us with a huge list of activities and a check-in bag. He and his activity director talked to each and every camper about what was good and listened to input for making the event even better. This is the first time I have ever observed a continued discourse with management throughout our entire stay. These novices really put in the effort and time to make their first rally successful. For those that arrived early, there was a wine and cheese reception in the ballroom Wednesday evening. On Thursday, trailerites could enjoy blue grass music poolside with lunch available. Friday had a variety of activities such as a shuffleboard tournament, vintage vendors, speakers on local interest hotspots, barbecue poolside with music in addition to a self-guided winery tour of the Temecula Valley, a veterinarian available for a free pet checkup, pet parade, farmers market and a vintage fashion show. The evening capped off with an Elvis Pressley tribute band, called Marlon. We have to mention their captivating, extraordinary drummer, Steve Kida. Many of us took an Elvis scarf back to our trailers — fun souvenir of the night. On Friday night, we were captivated by a Rolling Stones tribute band, the Ultimate Stones. A classic car show was held in conjunction with our vintage trailer show on Saturday. There was a public open house which kept us busy throughout the day with the American Graffiti Band playing in the background. Many awards were given — but, that’s another story. I can’t get started on that subject. Evidently, I have a different philosophy (attitude) towards doling out awards at vintage trailer rallies in general. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. We were treated to another tribute band, 4Lads of Liverpool, performing the music of the Beatles. This was a great way to relax after a very busy day. The resort treated us to a well organized and delicious breakfast Sunday morning. Anyone departing that day received a free late check-out at 2 PM. Trailerites were given the opportunity to sign up for the 2016 rally before departing. I believe this show will continue to grow every year. Good job, Michael and staff
