Our journey began by making the Sandpoint Marina RV on Lake Havasu our base camp. This campground no longer exists. We enjoyed camping there with all of its amenities many times. Our specific goal was to take our Advanced Elements Dragonfly inflatable kayaks (we did not have our hard kayaks at that time) and traverse the Colorado River from Topock, AZ to Windsor Beach State Park. By road travel, it's about 33 miles between the two sites.
What a fun trip! Six of us made the trip together in two tandem kayaks and two singles. The current carried us easily down the river. We were able to beach the kayaks and enjoy our packed lunches along the way.
At one point we even had to pull a pontoon boat out of the reeds. They were waiting for emergency services to assist them. They appreciated our little kayak's help.
When we finally reached the lake, we were already tired but the real paddling began. We all tried to outlast each other no matter how exhausted each of us were to reach our destination . . .
We made Windsor Beach and brought the kayaks out of the water; we had left a truck there earlier in the day. One of us had to drive back to Topock and retrieve another vehicle we had left there in the morning. We knew Windsor Beach was a good place to land, because we had previously camped there for a vintage trailer rally.
